I’ve just finished reading this enjoyable, but predictable book.

Megan is an attractive, popular girl, whose world falls apart when her mother, Diana Duprey, an abortion doctor, is murdered and her father is the prime suspect.

The book is partly about the murder investigation by the Police, but that takes second place to how the murder affects Megan, her father and others in the small community where they live.

There is a romantic subplot, which I felt was unnecessary and added nothing to the storyline, but nonetheless, this did not detract from my overall enjoyment of the book. The only thing that DID detract from my enjoyment was that it was obvious from very early on who had killed Diana, and if it was that obvious to the reader, then why wasn’t it obvious to the police investigating the crime?!

Having said that, ‘Huck’ the officer in charge of the investigation was a great character, and proof that literary characters can be very sexy indeed.  Megan was also a well drawn character, but I found it hard to like her (although this may have been intentional on the part of the author).

Overall, a good read – but not good enough to encourage me to read anything else by this author.
